Hi Group Three,
Just a reminder, we have a field trip to ESRI tomorrow. As I mentioned in class, they are a local company that does navigation and mapping software. You can check out their website at www.esri.com
We will be heading to ESRI in the afternoon. ESRI is a company that creates mapping software for student use. We are going to be attending a Student Day that the company has created to introduce students to the software, and to get their feedback on how to improve that software. We will be leaving campus around 12:45 and returning by 3:00. We will have lunch here at school as we normally would, and pick-up should be on time. If you have any further questions about this field trip, please feel free to contact me.
Once again, here are a few reminders about what's coming up in the next week:
Your "secret friend" gifts should be brought to school As soon as possible. They are technically due on Monday the 14th. Please only spend 10.00 at most for this gift. If you've forgotten whom your "secret friend" is, let me know, and I'll email you, or remind you with a note.
Hogan gifts should also be brought in as soon as possible too. If you are the oldest or only child in your family that goes to Clark, I have given you a notice from the office about your Hogan gift. If you cannot find your notice, please email Betsy in the office at clarkschool@clarkschool.com. It's a great thing that we do here each year that brings a smile to the faces of those less fortunate than us.
Have a great afternoon!
See you tomorrow,
John

Wrapping Up The Week
Hi Group Three,
Another week has gone by and we're nearing the end of the first half of the school year. In fact, we we only have two school weeks after winter break and then we're officially into the third quarter! Amazing.
I would like wish a "Happy Hanukkah" to all my Group Three students and their families who will begin their holiday celebration at sundown on Sunday. I wish you and your loved ones all the best.

One Week and A Lot To Do!
Good Afternoon Group Three,
I hope you listened carefully to Laurie today when she spoke about bullying at school. Remember what you should do if you see anything like that happening in the halls, or out at recess, or anywhere at school- let a teacher or staff member know as soon as you can. Remember, you won't get in trouble for reporting it, you're doing the right thing.
We have one week left before our Winter Break! I can't believe it! Just a few reminders as we head into the next week:
Your "secret friend" gifts should be brought to school before Friday the 18th. Please only spend 10.00 at most for this gift. If you've forgotten whom your "secret friend" is, let me know, and I'll email you, or remind you with a note.

Welcome to December, Hope You Have Your Suncreen.
Good Afternoon Folks,
I hope you had a chance to enjoy the weather we had today. Remember what they say about the weather in New England, "If you don't like it, wait five minutes."
Just a reminder, if you've forgotten your "Secret Friend" Holiday Gift Exchange Person...send me an email and I'll let you know who's name you picked out of the hat. You may bring in your gifts at any time, and we will all open them together at our Holiday Party on December 19.

My Mind is Officially Blown!
Hi Group Three,
So my mind is still blown from watching that science video from today. I can't believe we can send a laser from Earth all the way to an 18 inch mirror on the moon and have it bounce back to us. Amazing. Remember, science is always changing, and what we think is a fact today, might be proved wrong tomorrow.
I hope you had a great time today at our Inflatable Joust! I must admit, I was pretty happy to have the opportunity to give it a shot as well. David, you're a heck of a jouster, and you got me fair and square! Good job!
Please remember to get plenty of rest, wash your hands, do you best not to throw germs out there (cover you mouth when you sneeze and cough) and stay healthy!
I'll see you all tomorrow,
John

Welcome Back!
Hey There Group Three,
Welcome back, I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I know I did. I think I still have some leftovers around here...
Great job getting back in to the swing of things. We had a really productive day today. I'm happy those of you who did not get your "Thankfulness" stories done before the break got a chance to wrap them up today.
Tomorrow might be our major merit event- we'll see how the weather holds out!
I will not be with you guys tomorrow, I have some important family things to take care of. However, my mom, Chris will be there. She knows what's going on so it'll be like I never left. I want a good report from her, so be on your BEST behavior....she can take away stars too.
I'll see you all on Wednesday,
John

Quiet Day....
Hi Group Three,
I hope those of you who have been resting up are feeling better. Although we miss you here, we appreciate it when those germs stay at home!
The rest of the class had a great time this afternoon in science using the scientific method to figure out which paper airplanes went the furthest.
Don't forget about our Thanksgiving Feast with Group4 this Friday- I'm looking forward to it!

Get Some Rest!
Hi Group Three,
...or should I say, "Hi Half of Group Three". I'm sorry that there are a lot of you who aren't feeling well. I hope you're getting rest and getting better. As I always mention, wash your hands, cover your coughs, and please, please, please...if you're not feeling well, take a day to stay home and get rest...it's better for you, your friends at school, and everyone around you. Thanks!
Tomorrow- playing with paper airplanes in Science! I can't wait!

Thanks for Letting Me Know!
Hi Group Three!
I would like to thank you for letting me know my blog has not been updating! I had been trying a new method of updating- and apparently it hasn't been working. My apologies, and once again, thanks for letting me know.
Basically, the last week or so, I've been commenting on how happy I've been with the way things have been going in our room. People have been coming right in, writing down their assignments and getting right to their morning work- good job! I think the way our classroom is set up is really working as well. I see a lot more work being done, and a lot less talking. However, there is always room for improvement!
I'm really excited for our Thanksgiving Feast this Friday at 11am in Laurie's room. Some people have already signed up to bring some delicious-sounding dishes. Don't forget to "dress up." ...you might even see me wear a tie.
Remember to get a lot of rest, wash your hands, cover up when sneezing or coughing. We had a total of 4 people out by the end of the day today- please stay well, and if you're not feeling 100% healthy, stay home and get some rest.
Stay well,
John

Hi Group 3,
So, we certainly had a lot of changes today! New seats, new tables, new schedule, and work to do right when you come in to school. Don't forget to read your morning instructions each day when you come in.
I hope you all had a great Halloween! I loved all your costumes on Friday.
Thanks for a great day and for adapting so well to the new changes. See you tomorrow.

Rain, Rain, Go Away...
What an improvement over yesterday. I know today was tough too without being able to get outside and expend some energy. As I mentioned to you today, we're going start the next quarter with a whole new table set-up in our room- I'm hoping it works out!
Nice job today taking data and figuring out your reaction times. I told you I would post the links to the on-line reaction tests so, here they are:
Stop Light Test
Red/Green Test
Spot Test
Feel free to try these at home, see if you can get your family to give them a try. Who has the best reaction time. Post your best time in a "comment" below!

Hi Group Three,
Hmmm, not the best way to start off the week. Unfortunately you lost your stars in the last few minutes of class. As I mentioned, I think the toughest times for you guys are the times when we're going from one class to another. I think tomorrow we'll spend a few minutes and have a class discussion on how we can make it easier for all of you to go transition without fooling around, talking, or even getting in trouble. We'll waste less time in between classes, and you will wind up with more green than red on our calendar.
I'm very hopeful we can figure something out!

Good Afternoon Group Three,
Well, we had another busy week at school. I feel like we spent half the time at Connors farm! Between pumpkin picking today, and going through the "Corn Maize" on Tuesday, we spent plenty of time there.
Please remember your Square One Art order forms if you're planning on ordering this year- these forms are due on Tuesday.
The Clark Rummage sale takes place this weekend. If you're looking for a good deal on some used items, stop down on Sunday, find some treasures, and support the school!
Have a great weekend, and I'll see you on Monday morning.

Is It Really Fall?
Hi Group Three,
I hope you had a great day. I'm really impressed you guys were able to keep all your stars for classroom behavior today. Remember, since you did such a great job, we'll be heading back to Connors farm tomorrow to pick out pumpkins.
I'm updating today's blog through my phone, so please check the last updates for homework assignments. I have your Wordly Wise books and spelling tests ready for you to take home tomorrow- most of you did a really good job. Keep up the good work!

The Corn is as High as an Elephant's Eye!
Hi Group Three,
I would like congratulate everyone in Group Three for keeping enough Merit Points to enjoy the Medium Merit Event today at Connors' Farm. I hope you all had fun.

Remember, tomorrow is our quiz on the skeletal system. As I mentioned before, the quiz will have a drawing of a skeleton with lines pointing to the bones I would like you to identify. Just put the correct words next to the lines pointing to the bones. I hope everyone will be prepared.
Your Square One Art packets went home today. Make sure Mom and Dad take a look at them as soon as possible.
Have a great night, and I'll see you tomorrow.

If You Don't LIke The Weather in New England...
...just wait five minutes!
Hi Group Three,
Can you believe it? We started the day in winter, and by the end of the day it almost felt like spring. Amazing.
Great job on earning an extra break time this afternoon. Remember, I've reset the green check marks, and we need nine more after today to earn another extra recess/break time.
Remember, the Rummage sale is this weekend. There's still time to drop off old items to sell.
Have a great night, and I'll see you tomorrow.

Snow...? SNOW?!!!
Hi Group 3,
Can you believe how cold it was today? That reminds me- please remember to start wearing warm outdoor clothing to school. You don't want to be left inside just because you don't have a warm coat!
Today is the 9th day Group 3 has received a green check mark on the calendar for showing good behavior. That means only one more day of good behavior and you'll earn some extra free time in the afternoon. Let's see if you guys can make it happen on Monday.
As some of you know, the Family Work Day, and Rummage Sale are not happening this weekend because of the weather. Family Work Day is postponed. We'll tell you when we've rescheduled it. The Rummage Sale will happen on October 25.
Have a great weekend, stay dry, and I'll see you on Monday.

Simon Says....
...point to your cranium!
Hi Group Three,
I think today was one of the most comfortable days we've had all year...pajamas at school, what a great idea! Maybe we should do this each Wednesday!
Don't forget about the spelling test tomorrow...you will need to know the definitions of your words. I will tell you the definitions of 3 or your words, and you will have to write the word I've defined- so, study them all. I'm also posting the skeletal system study papers below so you can print them and quiz yourself at home.

Dear Group Three,
Thanks for another great day! You received another green check on the calendar. I hope all of you read the whiteboards before you left today. Keep up the great work- and don't forget, only one more week until Hulbert!

The Wednesday That Was...
Hello Group 3,
I hope you get a chance to get out and enjoy the Indian Summer we've been having for the last few days. The weather's been great.
I had a lot of fun in science today building our block structures....and watching them fall, and eventually stay put. See if you can quiz your parents; ask them, "An object at rest, tends to stay at.....?" See if they know the answer! But remember, no pulling out the tablecloth at home....unless you ask Mom or Dad first!

Your Elective Choice Sheets went home today- the faster you return them with a parent's signature, the more likely it will be for you to get in to the elective you want. They need to be returned before Friday.
Homework: Please check your assignment book daily. If you are with me for math, it's 30 minutes.
Science: Read and review Chapter 1 in your Science book. Please write out the answers to questions 1-3 on page 9. Due Wednesday
Wordly Wise: Finish the exercises for your word list, study those words for your spelling test on Thursday, the same day those exercises are due.
I'm looking forward to another great week!

Hi Group 3,
Here's a little assignment for you. Once you've read this, I would like you to write a comment down below so I can see who is keeping up with the blog. I'm excited that there are already three followers of the Group 3 blog! Remember to sign your name so I know who you are.
Reminders:
Friday Pizza will start NEXT WEEK. You will need to bring a lunch tomorrow, even if you have already paid for pizza. Your order will go toward next week's lunch.
Alison Landoni, our amazing art teacher has asked all students to bring in smocks for her class. Old over-sized t-shirts or button-ups would be great. Art is every Thursday.
The Welcome Back Picnic is this Sunday from 4-6pm. I hope to see you all there.
Homework:
30 minutes of math.
Science reading and questions due on Wed. 9/16
If you did not finish today's paragraphing assignment, please finish at home tonight.
Remember the video we watched today, and don't forget to wash your hands!

Welcome!
Hey there Group Three! Welcome to the Group Three Blog!
Here you can check your assignments, see what's coming up in the classroom, and the school year, and even drop me a line. My email address is johnc@clarkschool.com.
Each night you are assigned at LEAST 30 minutes of work in your math book. If your having trouble with a new skill, and need to wait until class to ask a question, PLEASE work with some skills that need reviewing (multiplication, division) so you're still doing math at night.
Other assignments will be listed here as well, but ALWAYS check your assignment books, and contact other classmates if you have questions on your homework.
There will be more to come- check back daily!
Current Assignments
Math - 30 Minutes in your book- or finish any worksheets I have given you.
Science - Please read and review chapter 1 in your science book. Answer questions 1-3 on p.9 on a separate piece of paper. This is due next Wednesday.
